Information found here is from my book which is the result of my research. The information concerning Henry Savercool's family comes largely from the Family Sheet produced by Mr. Francis S. Crawn. Mr. Crawn believed Henry Savercool was twice married; first to Elsie Kishpaugh and second to Elsy Ann Ulp. He was evidently not aware of a deed naming Henry's first wife as Christina. ÊI speculated that perhaps Elsy Ann was born a Kishpaugh and later married an Ulp before marrying Henry. I have not been able to confirm that.Ê

Henry Savercool was born about 1759/1760 probably in Stillwater, Sussex Co., NJ , the son of Wilhelm and Christina __?__ Savercool. He was married two times, (1) Christina __?__ (2) Elcy Ann (Kishpaugh) Ulp. His children were

by Christine:

1. William - b. June 24, 1781 - d. Dec. 5, 1870 m. Catharine Wiker - b. 1783 - d. Nov. 21, 1866

8. Isaac - 1/20/1806 - 5/2/1876 m. Ann Sipley - 1811-1895

The following deed is proof that Henry Savacool had a wife named Christina in December of 1795 when his father died intestate and left land to his children.

Wednesday, July 12, 1972

On Wednesday, July 5th in the afternoon I went to Newton, New Jersey, Sussex County seat to look up wills and deeds. ........And concerning the Savacools ......

bk C pg. 378 - December 12, 1795 - To all Christian people to whom these presents shall come, we Jacob Savacool and Phillipina, his wife, Henry Savacool and Christina, his wife, William Savacool and Elizabeth, his wife, Daniel Mc Curdy and Ida, his wife, formerly Ida Savacool, heirs of the late Wilhelm Savacool, late of Newton in the county of Sussex and State of New Jersey was in his life time seized of and in possession of sundry tracts or parcels of land lying and being in the county of Sussex and being so thereof seized, died intestate, whereby the said land became vested in his children, to wit, five sons, Jacob, William, Henry, John and Conrad, and two daughters, that is to say, Ida, who has intermarried with Daniel Mc Curdy and Margaret, who has been intermarried with Frederick Campbell but is dead and has left issue ....150 3/4 acres and another 14 acres, all quit claimed to John and Conrad Savacool for 350 pounds in specie proclamation money of New Jersey.

Henry then married Elcey Ulp on 19 April 1802. My Friday, April 15, 1977 entry below shows Henry's second wife's name was Elsie Kishpaugh as well as the fact that Henry Savercool arrived in the United States with his first wife, Christina.

Home for Easter Vacation. Went to the Sussex County "Homestead" Library. The reference librarian gave me a two page mimeo sheet called "Genealogical Research in Sussex County" which I zeroxed and will place in the folder at the back of this volume.

From this list of things genealogical that are available in the library, I asked for and looked through "Sussex County Marriages, 1795 to 1853".

This list is a copy of a copy of the list in the Sussex County Clerk's office. From it I discovered:

19 Apr. 1802 - Savacool, Henry to Elcey Ulp

11 Aug. 1814 - Savekool, Abraham to Mary Lomerson

14 Apr. 1814 - Savekool, Christina to Joseph Greer

Friday, April 15, 1977

Again to New Jersey to the Sussex County Historical Society which is only open on Fridays now. ............. I went through the files of families and found in the Savercool - Cooke file that Elsie Kishpaugh was Henry Savercool's 2nd wife and that Henry and 1st wife came from Germany to Stillwater.

Henry md Alice (Elsey) Ann Ulp on April 13, 1802 (b.ca 1764 and d: May 25, 1849 age 85 yrs ) by Jacob Ogden, J.P. (A-45). She is buried in the Old Stillwater (Hardwick) Lutheran Reformed Ch. Cemetery.

Mr. Crawn, in all the listings of Savercool and Kishpaugh families, makes the statement that Henry Savercool's first wife was Elsie Kishpaugh and his second wife was Elcy Ann Ulp. Perhaps he did not know of the deed of 1795 giving Christina as the name of Henry's wife. I believe Elsie Kishpaugh and Elcy Ann Ulp were the same person, that Elsie was a widow when she married Henry in 1802, and that she is not the mother of John Savercool, my relative. The following entries do not prove anything, but shows the above to be possible. Barnet Ulp was widowed at age 47 and died in 1796, at almost age 50.

Tuesday, April 21, 1992

. . . . . . . . . . . I went to the Old Stillwater Cemetery. I had been there before, also, so there was little to make note of. I did copy:

Here lies the body of Barnet Ulp who was born 1745 and departed this life August the 26th 1796 aged 49 years.

In memory of Elizabeth Ulp. She was born 1748 and died 1792 aged 44.

Since early in my search I thought Elsie Kishpaugh was Henry's first wife, I researched the Kishpaugh family. In the following notes, Joseph Kishpaugh died in 1820 leaving Letters of Administration in file # 5396 and an inventory of his estate in file # 5397. In these files, Henry Savercool is mentioned several times. At this time he is in his early 60's and married to Elsie Ann Ulp, yet he is mentioned in connection to the funeral charge of Joseph Kishpaugh. In addition William Wintermute, Henry Savercool's son-in-law, is made one of the administrators and Isaac Savercool, Henry and Elsie's son is mentioned. At the time I noted Henry might be related to Joseph Kishpaugh but now I am just short of certain that Elsie Ann Ulp was Joseph Kishpaugh's daughter. Without further records of proof I can not be certain of it.

Made a trip to the Sussex Count Library and then to the Surrogate's Office in Newton.

From the books on proceedings file no.

LA = Letters of Administration; IN = Inventory; Kishpaugh was variously spelled - Kirschbach, Kirschpaugh, Kishpaw, Carsbach, Kishbach.

and from the files I learned:

5394 - John Kishpaugh - wife, Mary Ann. The inventory mentions a payment to Mary Gunterman. Both the wife, Mary Ann, and John Kishpaugh, Jr. renounced their right to adminstration. A letter in the file show that John Caltz & Elizabeth, his wife, and Mary Ann Kishpaugh thought the administrators had taken too much money from the estate to pay for administrative fees.

In volumn I of my records, pg 111-112, is a deed which shows that the Mary Gunterman mentioned above is the wife of William Gunterman. I was hoping this would give me a lead on the parents of Elise Kishpaugh Savercool when I saw it, but it has opened up the possibility of completing the Gunderman line and even made possible a connection between Gunderman and Savacool through the Kishpaugh family. The deed on page 111-112 also shows this next file content to belong to the son of John and Mary Ann Kishpaugh, above.

5395 - Jonas Kishpaugh - wife, Harriet, and Jane Kishpaugh are mentioned.

5396 - Joseph Kishpaugh or Kirschbach. Margaret Kirschbach and John Kern are administrators. The inventory names Henry Savercool two times.

5397 - Joseph Carsbaugh (Kishpaugh) - died in Hardwick, son is Henry Carshbaugh. Administrators are William, Peter and Joseph Wintermute. The inventroy names Barnett Sipley, Henry Diver, Henry Savercool (Funeral Charge), Jacob Kishpew, Job Halsten, Nathan Drake, Aaron Hazen (Coffin), Peter D. Broom, L. VanSickle, Joseph Norton, Frederick Mains, James Willentine, Henry Savercool, John F. Snover, Isaac B. Smith, Matthias Halstead,Jos. Norton, William Craig, William Halsey, John F. Snover, Peter Wintermuth, Isaac Savercool, John Dietrich, Henry Savercool. Notes that were due to the estate were two by William Carshpaugh, John Puderbaugh, Philip Kishpaugh, Jacob Kishpaw, Elizabeth Kishpaugh, Herbert Kishpaugh.

Perhaps this is a relative of Henry Savercool's wife, Elsie.

It would have been easier for me if Elsie Kishpaugh were Henry's first wife, but now I am still without the maiden name of Henry's first wife, Christina, and will have to persue that later.

Went to the Mormon Library in Vestal to look for Gunderman records. I was hoping to look at some censuses but remembered when I got there that you need to order them. They do have Broome Co. and several others there, but not New Jersey.

The only things I found on microfiche were:
